David Heckler, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and serves as the Director of the Internalizing Clinic at the Texas Child Study Center. In addition, Heckler provides clinical services within the Collaborative Abdominal Pain Program (CAP Program), a multidisciplinary clinic within Gastroenterology at 'Specially for Children at Dell Children's Medical Center. Heckler specializes in evidence-based practice in psychology for children and adolescents with anxiety, depression, disruptive behavior, and chronic pain. He also provides training and supervision to varying levels of psychology trainees.
Current research interests include studying the efficacy of short-term cognitive-behavioral therapy and hypnotherapy in the treatment of pediatric functional gastrointestinal disorders. Broadly, Heckler is interested in improving health equity, as well enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of multidisciplinary pediatric programs.
Heckler received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Texas Tech University, MS in Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and BA in Psychology and Business Administration from Austin College. Heckler completed his predoctoral psychology internship at Texas Children’s Hospital, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Texas Child Study Center/Dell Children’s Medical Center.
