Esmeralda García Galván joined the Center for Health and Social Policy in November 2011. Prior to joining CHASP, Esmeralda had served as the Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist for the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs since January 2009. Her functions in support of faculty and staff included researching and disseminating funding opportunities from public and private sources; providing pre-award support services such as editing and drafting proposal templates and budgets; and facilitating the university submission and post-award process. Esmeralda also provided grant-related professional development to faculty and staff; collected, reported and maintained data on grants/contracts activity; and addressed university compliance issues related to grants and contracts. Her professional career includes twenty years of service in local government and public higher education, specializing in grant management and fundraising. She served as an environmental resources coordinator for the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council and an economic development specialist for Cameron County. García Galván worked six and half years at the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College, beginning as a grant writer and culminating as an assistant director of development. García Galván holds a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree in public affairs from the LBJ School, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas A & M University. While pursuing her graduate education, Esmeralda served as the Bryna and Henry David Fellow/Graduate Research Assistant for the Ray Marshall Center for the Study of Human Resources and later as a full-time grant writer at Austin Community College.

Wendy Gonzales has been working in marketing and communications for over 20 years and joined the LBJ School of Public Affairs in the fall of 2010. Prior to working at The University of Texas at Austin, Wendy was a marketing executive managing multi-media campaigns and projects for her clients at advertising agencies and marketing departments in Texas and Virginia. She also previously managed the operations and development of the Project on Educator Effectiveness and Quality (PEEQ) initiative at the LBJ School. Wendy specializes in working at the intersection of academic research, policy, and public interest. She leads efforts to promote the work of faculty and staff at the LBJ School to inform and engage people about how rigorous research can impact public policy to improve lives. In addition to managing CHASP communications, Wendy is also the operations and communications director for the Child and Family Research Partnership group at LBJ. She also loves and uses technology in her work to reach audiences and improve processes.
